Checked my RR corn today it has filled out all but the last inch or two of the ear on every ear.
We have had over 12 inches of rain since June 15,why did it not fill out all the way? Could it be nitrogen lost from all of the rain?

What I hear is kernel fill is set about when the growing point comes out of the ground?

Nitrogen, moisture, sunlight, plant population and other factors all play into it.

Again my understanding is you have close to a perfect setup there. If the ears fill completely, you probably would be wasting some fertilizer or sunlight.

If the ear is tipped back farther, then you were too low on fert, or low on sun.

With an inch or less tip back. You are real close to using everything the year had to offer, without wasting any.

Let me run this by you, its the 23rd of July, corn is waist high and burned to a crisp, was planted as soon as I could get the planter in the field, it rained for three weeks after the day it was planted and has not rained since, you want to trade?
