What are the chances 80 day rr corn could be planted today, in Central WI, and be ready for picking by fall. Not sure if it is just too late? Thanks......

My part of southern MN, always said stop planting corn June
10, beans on July 4th.

Few go a little later on double crop beans behind peas, but
that is a gamble.

Some try a tad later on silage corn behind alfalfa, but not for
grain.

Sure is hard to figure it will work this late for corn.

Depends of course, if we get that once in 20 years fall weather
that ends up perfect for you.....

I know what you mean. My uncles planted some 90 day corn last year on June 18th, and turned out ok. This year it is just been too wet in the heavy soil area I am in. It is hard to say what will happen, it is a small field, only 1 1/2 acres, so not a big gamble, but I hate gambling, lol.

t all depends on when the first killing frost will be. I'm in West Central IL, it's 250 miles to Madison. One 4th of July I planted an acre of Golden Bantam (80 day) sweet corn and had delicious corn in October.

central WI, slim to none.
I know guys putting in 80-85 day corn this week but there is no thought of making ripe.
Silage or maybe if things shake out high moisture, but certainly not ripe.

30 years ago,I planted some 95 day on July 8th in mid Michigan. It almost made it. We didn't get a frost til the third week of October that year. It was in the milk stage.

My Grandfather always told me, "Never plant for failure". That was 60 years ago and it is still good advice.

I am going to plant sweet corn just as soon as it gets dry enough to get in the garden. But I live in Southern Il. Don't think field corn will make it even here planted now! Vic
