We took some mixed hay (100 small squares) to the sale barn on Saturday. Since we left it on the trailer, we had a lady walk up and ask if we would deliver 15 miles away with her guys stacking it. We said we would do that for $75. A few more people seemed interested in local delivery.
With the way the hay prices were, I was sweating it. Some grass hay was going for $1.75/bale which would have been a loss for us.
Since there were a few people who wanted delivery, we were able to get a premium over the hay that was on the ground and needed to be put on the trailer.
We got $4.25/bale + delivery and sold to the lady that asked us first. We took it to a local race track and were able to see some good looking thoroughbreds.
All in all, it was a good day.
