killing onions

My neighbor has an onion problem in a field. About 3 weeks ago I sprayed the field for him as he was laid up. He had a spray mixture recommended to him which included Roundup, 2,4-D, a surfactant and one other chemical (don't remember the name). Sprayed the field, killed everything except the onions. Now the onions have no competition and are doing better than ever.I think they were too big when we sprayed. I don't know what his next plan is. They have to be the toughest things in the whole world to get rid of.

charlie, If that is the case then fertilize heavy! water them once or twice, then get a few plastic sacks and set up a road side stand and sell Onions!! LOL!

if you are talking about wild onions they can be hard to kill,we have a farm that when we spray round-up and 24d as a burn down in the spring the wild onions will always be the last thing standing and of coarse a few new ones will emerge ,but the ones that got the first spraying are usally dieing real slow, then when we spray after planting corn with nitrogen and corn herbicide plus some more round-up 24d if needed to control late emerged weeds their pretty much done with for that year, but rest assured there will be some next year
