Best way to Store Seed Corn

I have about a half bag of seed corn left that I'd like to save for next year. I have it in a plastic cat-litter pail with a lid. I can store it in the garage--unheated--or the basement where we keep it around 50. More apt to get mice in the garage but would be colder in the winter. Thoughts?

We always have a little seed corn left over maybe a partial bag or a few bags from cleaning out the planter boxes before moving to the next farm. It sits in a shed all year until the next year and it gets planted and grows.

Cold is fine. Dry is important. And keeping the rodents out is imperative if you want any viable seed!
I keep mine in a tin 30 gal. garbage pail w/lid, on concrete floor in a corner of what used to be a basement cow barn, now machinery storage building.

I keep mine in a pail that swiming pool clorine came in. After really cleaning it out and letting it air for a year it works fine. Seals tight which is important--keeps out moisture and air. Do not keep it more than one year, germination will drop.
I have kept soybeans and wheat for a couple of year without trouble. For those I have food grade plastic barrels. These have rubber sealing ring in the lids and once you lock the lids on they will work fine even outside in the weather. The sun heats them and pushes the air out but will not allow it back in. The barrels will actually colapse (sp).
