Sporadic Emergence

In both my garden and plots, it seems like seeds are emerging sporadically. I have corn that has been up for 10 days and other shoots just emerging in the same row. Same with beans and corn in my garden. Anybody else experiencing the same thing? The weather has been hot and cold. They're forecasting low 80s this week and mid 60s next week. Goofiest spring I've ever experienced. I'm in SW Michigan.

Mine hasn't emerged. Hope it doesn't because it's still in the bag in the barn.

As far as odd weather,a neighbor and I were talking about odd weather years that we could remember. The one thing that was evident was that no year is "normal or average".

We had that last year with corn. Less than ideal planting conditions had poor soil contact. Some germinated right away while the rest germinated a week or two later after a good rain.

I had the same thing in the garden a little earlier. I blamed it on up and down temperatures then. This is in SC.

Spotty Emergence has been common this year, at least with the soybeans in my neighborhood. A few of the neighbors that planted corn a week or two later than I did have seen the same problem. I planted corn the first whole week of may, and beans on the 15th and 16th. The soil moisture was there early on, then too dry to germinate. Then cool/wet. Now Warm and wet.

As noted, there's no such thing as "normal" when farming. I'd say our wet and cool spring has been closer to normal, though. I"m your neighbor to the east. (Lenawee County, SE Michigan.)-Andy
