Do Those Chemical Stump Eaters Work?

Do those chemical potions that supposedly decompose stumps work? I have a couple in my plots that I'd like to get rid of.

I prefer the pile of manure approach. Cover it at least a foot deep, come back in a year or two. Price is right and I've actually had it work - cannot say the same for a bottle of whatever stump-magic-remover crap we used in the 1970s. If it's not totally gone, break it up (it should be well-rotted, at least) and re-cover it.

If you want to drill holes and add urea, that may speed things along. But the humid envrionment inside the pile is as important (or more important) than the nitrogen it provides in breaking the stump down.

If you have access to chicken manure, it should work "best", but horse has done fine by me.

You could plant the pile, given that it's a food plot.

If it is in a good spot cut a hole in the top or drill big holes in it and fill with salt . When the salt soaks into the wood the deer will eat the stump into the ground .

If it's dead and dry you can pile coals on top and put a 55 gallon drum with both ends cut out and few air holes around the bottom over it. It will burn out in 3-4 days.

Don't know about store bought remover. Was told to drill holes in one and pour old milk in the holes. Should rot it out pretty quick, so I was told.
Muriatic acid does a pretty good job of breaking it down, then you have to move the chunks.

Some of the Stump Remover products are KNO3 which is potassium nitrate. "It accelerates the natural decomposition of the stump by supplying nitrogen for the fungi attacking the wood of the stump." from Wikipedia.
