New brome vs cheat question

Looking for advise for some new brome hay I planted last fall. Due to dry weather I didn't get much of a stand before winter. Now, with all the rain and snow I have a pretty good stand, but it is also full of cheat. I am sure it is because of the drought type weather we have had the last couple or three years. Looks like the rain brought up cheat that the seed has probably been just laying in waiting for. Most are having the same problem with cheat in our wheat as well. My question to anyone who might have some experience with new brome is this: should I rotary mow the brome (full of cheat) now, and try to get the cheat before the seeds are ready? I think maybe by next year the brome should choke the cheat out, but right now it's a mess. The brome would not be ready to cut for about a couple of weeks, but I don't want the cheat to go to seed I would think. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks - Bob

We have problem with cheat as well. The only way we get rid of it was either plow it under or Glysophate.

I sprayed 40 acres early this spring that was getting a lot of cheat that is going to corn.

Just tilled the field for corn a couple of hours ago and all the cheat was dead.

I don"t know if you ever get rid of in brome without starting over. It is going to fight you every spring. It grows from seed also from the roots of cut off plants.

It is called Cheat for a reason. It cheats and comes up early and chokes out any later crops.

I would bale it if it was mine. I do not have brome. I Have baled cheat before it seeds and cows seem to like it.
