Anyone get voles in sweetcorn?

Anybody know how to get rid of voles? I planted sweet corn last weekend and something took out two entire rows tunneling down each planter row. I've read where it wouldn't be moles because they eat insects, plus cats bring dead baby voles up on porch now and then. Hope to find a solution before they find the rest of the rows.

We used to get the exact thing, holes and the corn shoot laying there without any seed on it. It was those little ground squirrels...chipmunks.

Zinc phosphide pellets are labeled for voles in no-till corn. I have never used it myself. I think it has to be buried so the birds can"t get to it. Most farm stores sell it in a funnel shaped plastic container for use on moles. I also believe it gives off a gas when it is introduced to air and is also used for insects in stored grain.

I think that is 13 stripe ground squirrel (gopher)
Look arond for a pair if hole nearby, some dirt piled up. 2 5 gal pails of water should drown him up and out. Have you fastes dog lying between the holes.

An old trick that works for me is to inject the bag of corn seed with turpintine. The smell keepa the voles from bothering the seed after its planted. I use a large vetinarian syringe and give each bag of corn 2-3 shots and let it set for a day or so before planting so the stink gets on all the seeds.
