Keeton firmers

I just got some precision meters and bullseye seed tubes, and it was suggested to me to use the seed firmers also, and they said their was a little wire spring affair and to put it on at the same time, so what do you guys do?

I use Keaton seed firmers on my kinze. Mine are plastic.

Do they really help? Who knows?

I just picked up my precision meters and bullet tubes this afternoon, still in the back of the pickup here.

In my sticky yellow clay and peat ground, they say some times the Keetons smear the clay, pulling the seed or smearing the seed trench and sealing it. In ideal conditions they are supposed to help, but we often are planting into sticky soils here, so my small neighborhood does not mess with the Keetons much.

I thought they were actually a plastic piece? Ya can't back up with a planter or you bust things, but I understand it is another thing to replace if you ever back up in the ground with the Keetons. Some have fertilizer openings to apply small amounts of liquid fert in the seed trench for a popup. Don't think that would apply to you....

Man oh man, this snow is getting old. Started again just after noon, they say somewhere a narrow band is going to get 3-8 inches this afternoon, we are in the area that band should show up. Had 7 inches, 8 inches, and whatever we get today in the past week and a half. Towns 80 miles north of me have been setting record lows for the past 2 weeks..... Got up to 36 degrees today. They say we might hit our first 60 on Saturday, we've only had 3 days in the 50s this year....

Enough already!

I guess I will give them a shot, they are supposed to add 6 bpa on corn, but if you used everything that increases yeild what is the need in buying seed? We are supposed to have snow on the ground in the morning and a hard killing frost on Wed. not excited about any of it....

When I was assembling kinze planters in my shop they were a sales pitch item. i hated messing with them and setting them up. they are like any other attachment, its another item to sell the customer. I n my area now they have seemed to fased out. i would not spend the money personally. If they were really needed they would be on that planter from the factory. Its way more important too keep your planter adjust correctly and running at correct speed period. its like the disc ,field cultivator saga, before planting. But once corn is 6 inches tall can you tell which tillage unit you used. good luck

neighbor tried them 2 years ago on a new jd vacuum planter ,he was complaining about his seed spacing being erratic, found out it was the seed firmers dragging the seed

Visited there a year and a half ago. Was picking up a truck tire. Had been there back in 1980 as well.

Sure is some weather. They tell us it is supposed to turn the corner this weekend.
