planted a field in the fall,,my 1st time tryind orchard grass, sprayed 2weeks ago with 2-4-d kill most weeds but still have one kind of weed with purple flowers or is that part of orchard grass or how do i get rid of that thanks cdv

"Henbit" will be prevalent this time of year.....it has pink and purple flowers. That would be my first guess. 2 4-D usually kills it so I'm not positive on my guess. I"d probably spray it again and be sure to use a surfactant or put some Dawn dishsoap in the spray mix.

I"d think that it would be too early for Crown Vetch to be blooming, but I"m not sure where you are located. In most of the country Crown Vetch would not be mature enough. Do a google search for Crown Vetch and Henbit and look at the pictures to help you identify your weed.

A picture would help us know what it is. I have 2 or 3 different purple flowers in my hay fields this time of year. One is the common hens bit and another is a purple violet type as what I have been told it is

If this purple weed came up when it was still cold and is short in height, it is hen bit : a nasty pesty weed. It likes to grow in my alfalfa, I don't know what I can use,but would hope 2-4 D would kill it for you. Mark

I think you should just wait untile you mow that grass and see how it is for second cut? That little bit of viney weed will most likely disappear. And may be pretty high food value.
If you MUST spray, Try some Grazon P+D at 1.25 quarts per acre.
