Corn Screenings

Does anyone have any experience feeding screenings to sheep? I have about 5 tons and would like to mix SBM in and create about a 13% mixed that I can feed out to my Market Lambs. I"d be using it as a finishing ration. Thus far they have been on a custom pellet that is a mix of DDGs, Corn, SBM and Wheat Midds... Just looking to use op the screening in a cost effective manner.

Thanks for any input,

I don't know what percentage lambs need, but I was just thinking of doing the same on a batch of feeder hogs to see how they do. I have heard tell that hogs do well on it and gain good as long as you monitor protein when mixing. That's nothing new. Do you use a base from the coop when you mix? Our boys at the coop are really good about getting everything just so. I'd do it but double check with them on ratios for sure.

If you have access to good alfalfa hay a 50/50 ground corn hay ration is a complete and economical ration for market lambs, screenings will work just as well.

I've fed screenings for many years to dairy cattle. Can be good...

But keep in mind that any molds or toxins are usually much more concentrated in the screenings. If corn was reasonable quality, the screenings should be too provided they are dry. If the corn has issues, be very careful with screenings.
