Woke up to the sound of snowblowers and plow trucks this morning.
Roads are called unpassable, tho they didn't quite close them, pickups are the only thing moving. Took a little 2 mile tour, and the 4wd even got slow going, had to back up and try again in one spot.
Had freezing rain and snow yesterday, several inches of heavy wet snow. This morning got another 5-6 inches of very wet snow. Evergreens are all drooping a lot.
I am perhaps 60 miles from Worthington MN, see the pics in the link from there. They got the freezing rain, snapped their trees and power poles and electric wires right off. That town is running on diesel generators, all incoming lines are snapped off. Rural folk don't get counted, but they are on their own.
Don't know how they will get those power lines back up in 24 hours, the road ditches are mush from the melted snow and rain and frost coming out, and now 5 inches of heavy wet snow. Even a tracked machine gets bogged down in those conditions, no footing, deep heavy snow on top of clay mud and water puddles.....
I believe today is the first day the USDA crop insurance covers corn planting in my area......
