thorny locus

I am not a pro on this, but I think thorny locust is honey locust, which is NOT the one you want to use. I think you want to use black locust.
 
Both speices actually can have thorns, honey locust more so in larger trees then black so make sure to identify which one you are looking at. But if you are using black locust those will out last any treated post. I use them all the time.
 
I have black locust posts on my place 20 years in the ground and they were in the ground on my dad's place about 30. We turned them upside down here. They are sawn black locust heartwood. 4" diameter sap wood limbs will only last about 5 years. Plus, get the bark off.
