But tonight I am bringing in the brass monkey, dang is it cold and getting colder. 15 degrees and wind blowing hard here at 601pm

67 here yesterday, 54 this morning. Snowing now, expecting around 1" accumulation. Temps plummeting to 11 tonight with wind chill around -7. Warming up to 24 through the day tomorrow, 13 tomorrow night. Perfect weather to go along with the worst head cold I've had in ages. Brass monkey left for South America I do believe.

Blowin outa the north and about 8 degrees right now...6:30. Cancel my below reply about heating the skid steer. It's supposed to warm to the mid 30's by sunday, so I said to heck with it!
My brass monkey died of old age a year ago!

I just watched the local weather, I am sorry that I mentioned our little cool down. The weather geek said that in Pauls neck of the woods temps 20 to 30 below 0, now thats cold, I don't care who you are.....

So what's the big deal. That's not cold. Finally cooled back down to around 20 today. Great day to haul manure out of the feedlots. Didn't have to chase it all over. Supposed to be in the single digits tonight, windchills around zero tomorrow. Just feels a little more like winter.
I'll take this any day of the week over the 40s and 50s we had the last two days with constant rain. I don't care who you are, when it's in the 40s and 50s and you're wet, you're cold. I can dress for zero and as long as I'm dry,I'm comfortable.

Should only get to 15 below, but the wind isn't going to let up until afternoon. Got up to minus 2 today, but the wind is the miserable part.

Ya for Missouri it is cold but I have seen it a whole lot colder in Missouri. Seen it in the 10-20 below before but not in many years. But I also tend to think back when ever I think it is cold to doing top side watch on a sub in Scotland in Jan. Now that is cold or worse when we did an arctic run on that same sub now that was more then just cold

Ah but the cold we have now days sure does not seem to be like it was in days past. I still remember times of opening up the front door and grabbing the shovel just to get off the front porch due to snow being so deep

We had one of those winters just two years ago. The boy and I worked til noon with two tractors one day just getting enough snow moved to get the gates open and driveways and feedbunks cleaned out so we could start to feed cattle. About a week later it all blew right back in from the other direction. Most snow I've had since the bad one in 78.

Yep back when I still lived up north we had snow on the ground from Oct. till March but have not seen that for decades

Interesting comment, Old. I made some of the first runs out of Scotland on the 601. Later, we lived in Innelan, about 10 miles down the Clyde River, for a couple of years. Loved it there.

That night doing that top side watch the midnight to 4AM watch it was raining at the level the sub was at but you could watch the mountain tops and see them getting white with snow. It was one cold night. You say the 601 as in Sub number or ??? I was on the SSBN633

601 was the Robert E Lee. Made 4 patrols from Scotland, 1971-1973. Later served on Squadron 14 staff, 1969-1971.

My name here comes form where and how I learned what I know. I learned early it is best to keep your ears open and you eyes open and listen to the older people and you can learn a lot that way

When we were looking for a place down there 12-15 years ago,we talked to one realtor who told us it hadn't snowed there in two years. Said the last time it did, they had 12 inches, then it was 60 degrees the next day and the snow was all gone in two days.
So I don't know if there is such a thing as unusual weather for Missouri. Unusual seems to be the word for normal there.

It is said here in Missouri if you do not like the weather just wait 24 hours and it will change

Great thinking. I'm getting to the point in life where there are not many "older" people to listen to.
But I'm still "on the right side of the grass" and living life fully.

My very first job was for a guy who had a car/truck/tractor repair place. I got payed candy bars and soda pop etc. This guy made my dad look young. I did things like sweep up the shop and clean grease spots off the floor etc. One of the first things I learned was how to safely weld a gas tank.He had a tank with a hose going to it from the exhaust of a car. He told me get out of the shop till I heard him shut off the car or if it exploded to call for help. I was around 11 years old then by the way

The Bobby Lee? I was on the Jimmy K. from 70-73- 2 runs from Holy Loch and one back to Rota after our conversion to Poseidon....

Sorry. I made a typo. Made patrols from Scotland 1961-1963.
620 was a NEW boat to me. Did you know Poston or Marty Carson?
