A pretty day

We went from 24 yesterday to 52 and sunny today. I got on the gator and went looking at my cover crops. Much to my surprise they look pretty good. I can not help but think if we could get two weeks of steady rain that we would be in the cat birds seat. But then again if my aunt had balls she would have been my uncle....

We got up to 11 today, before the NW wind picked up and dropped down to minus 6 so far. Wind chill is minus 25 or something.

Took the utv out yesterday, checked some fence, cattle, etc. was at least low wind, if only 8 degrees yesterday.

All that doesn't matter, its the miserable ice, this morning we got the lightest fluffiness snow I've ever seen. So, can't see the ice now. Walk along, and goes from gravel to snow to glare ice, all under an inch of white fluff. Dangerous! Wind blew a lot away again, so you can see the ice mostly, but this morning, was a dance to get down to the barn.

We suffered through a low of 35 last night but should be 27 tonight. It may sound wierd to you folks, but we need some "real" winter weather or bugs will kill us by May.

I know what you are saying. Last winter was odd for here, stayed around 30 degrees, I never put the snow blower on, we didn't have enough snow melt to sprout weeds to fill the ditches, was just odd. Bugs actually weren't bad this summer, but probably because it was so dry, usually a warm winter and the bugs get bad.

It was into the teens this morning, but temp is dropping fast durning the day, strong 20mph NW wind came up an hour ago, supposed to be 5 to 10 below again tonite.

With no snow cover, these cold temps are busting water pipes, see a street dug up in town once a week or so. If the cold is driving down that deep this year, should get rid of some of the corn bugs at least.

We have a neighbor close to town that planted radishes as a cover and got some calls demanding that they do something about the smell recently. So they ran a Phoenix rolling harrow over it and broke the tops off. Now I'm thinking that the complainers are wishing that the'd kept their mouths shut since it was the worst stink it had ever been until it froze again. I didn't think mine smelled that bad but his field is larger than mine too. Got a chuckle as it made the local paper calling it a "green experiment" that went wrong. They want you to do more environmentally friendly things and this is the thanks he got.
