| | Well up here in Minnesota it's been below 20 degrees several times. Not much green left, only the turnips and a few bottom leaves of alfalfa, but we are long past green around here. Tho today was close to record setting, 60-something. Had a 5 acre patch of swamp grass, didn't get cut the 2nd time. First cutting was delayed, a plugged tile inlet kept a foot of water on it for a long time, late 1st cutting. Sure looked like nice hay in September, but real short yet, would miss a lot with the rake and baler pickup. Then combining came early, so no more thinking of hay. Combined, plowed, chisel plowed. Other stuff. Went & looked at the grass patch yesterday, and man, those little showers we got in late October really made it grow, very bushy & leafy & full, tender. Of course froze off, bleached tan. But - nice looking grass all the same! So, I got out the sickle mower yesterday, cut it - it was so bushy couldn't even see where I cut, it just stood there like a deep pile rug. Had to follow the tractor wheel track on the other side, not the mower edge. Didn't know what I'd get, if it would even bale. So, got the small square baler out, raked it today, baled it. Got maybe 230 bales, really nice tight, yet light bales. Probably not horse hay, but my cows will love that roughage, really nice - tho bleached - looking hay. Never did that the day before Thanksgiving before, way up here in MN. Probably have the neighbors talking again..... --->Paul |

| | I had considered waiting on the baling until this afternoon, Friday. It was 17 degrees this morning, 25 mph winds with gusts much higher, and some very light snow flurries. Sun just broke out now at 10:00am, but the temp and wind aren't any better. Wow, what a shock from the mid 60's we had on Wednesday! Now, to pick a day to unload that last load of hay in the bale basket. Think I'm kinda wore out from my morning shopping today, and don't feel like openning any shed doors in this wind, mutch less moving hay bales.... Just glad it's in the shed and not on the field - or with this wind, on the neighbor's field... --->Paul |

| Haven't baled since the first week or two of August. But I did just get the plow truck greased up and oil changed though, supposed to start snowing Friday and calling for up to 8" over the weekend... |

| My baler is all cleaned, greased and in its spot in the barn for the winter and the Hesston mower is also greased and oiled for the winter....I"m done! Got a 2.5 acre finger I was going to cut/bale after the hard freeze a week or so ago, but couldn"t get my old butt to drag everything out and have to clean it all up again. So yesterday, after a flash of reality, I counted my 633 bales left, then found that I still have 72 stakes left so I guess I"ll fence it in! Makes sense huh? |

| Got my calves weaned so opened up all the pastures and I think now I have a month of grazing left so I am really happy about that, I thought, not bad for the dry year we had, that is why i have still been baling, I have had to to make sure I got enough hay, - been baling anything that has a little grass in it so alot of it will be low utilization. |
