grwoing sunflowers

How do you guys that grow sunflowers get them before the birds get them all. I had about a 1/4 acre last year I experimented with and never got a seed - blue jays got them as fast as they dried down.

I grow several acres just because the birds get thier share. I had the same problem when I grew a half acre or less. I don't believe there is a solution for small fields.

i grew about a half acre for a friend to use for an art project. we didn"t have any trouble at all with birds. i wonder if it"s the part of the country or something. i"m in east tn.
