Brome Germ Rate

Just curious if anyone might know how long it should take for some brome seed I planted to germinate and come up? I planted it on the 12th of Oct. The next day it got a total of 1.5" of rain throughout the day. It is pushing 2 weeks and I'm not seeing much. Weather has been in the 70's and 80's so I am thinking it should be coming. Any thoughts? Thanks - Bob

I would expect it would take around 2 weeks this time of year....depends upon how cold your nights are and the soil temperature. You said "throughout the day"...I'm assuming you didn't get a hard rain and compact the soil. Dig down and find the seed. That will tell you most everything you are looking for. It should be germinated and attempting to break through. Let us know what you find.

Brome is a strang grass. In my area of Kansas I plant around 17lbs PLS (pure live seed) and ignore it. There may not seem like you get a stand the first year but the second year you wonder why you planted it so thick. DON'T give up on it.
