Red Clover ?

How long will red clover continue to grow after a frost? The leaves still look good and so far it does not look to be any signs that we ever had cold weather. I would like to wait a week or so to cut it, do you think it will be ok?

There is about a 70% chance it will be ok for another week. Generally, it takes two consecutive nights of 27-28 degrees to push clover and alfalfa into dormancy. Clover is more susceptable to frost than alfalfa, but hardy none-the-less. How cold did it get over your way? I"d think you would see "some" frost signs by now if it indeed did get it. These cool nights and days do dramatically slow down growth, so there might not be much point in waiting given that there won't be all that much "additional" growth in a weeks time.

Most clovers will take a bit of frost before giving up. Also if your weather guessers are saying the same thing as down here I bet you have a week if not more before your going to see another frost

We got down to 29 and the buckwheat, and cuckle burrs took a hit, but the hay looks real good still. I think the only problem I am going to have is getting it to dry down.

Any hay that can be made this time of year is absolutly the finest you can make. Due to the longer dry tme it stays fluffy and green.

I planted some crimson clover in a fire break Oct. 15, SW Michigan. It's up and to the two-leaf stage with above freezing weather for the next week or two. Coming in real well.
