soybean straw

Hi guys,
I was wondering if there was a market for soybean straw as feed or bedding? There was so much straw this year. Some of the beans were 4 feet tall. We yeilded 55 bushel to the acre out of a old allis pull type. It has a chopper but only chopped it to about 1 ft and less lengths. I farm with older equipment and the field cultivator isn't going to like it next spring. I really don't want to moldboard plow it either. I would be bailing it in small sqaures. I am in MN. Thanks for the input.

Lot of farmers just drop it without the chopper and then bale it. Grind it up when they grind hay bales and mix togeather for feed. Makes cows nice and shinny due to the oil content.

How far are you from Mankato, they are looking for bean straw for their particle board, they will bale it themselves, round or big square, they won't want small square.

Makes good bedding, for feed it sux, the good stuff - the bean hulls - don't get baled up, what does is course & dry, like eating wood sticks.

I'd not want to handle many small squares, it will be very prickly, wear out the jeans and the skin pretty fast?

Thanks for the tip. I am west of Rockford or about 50 miles west of the twin cities. That is probably too far for them to travel, but gives me an idea of someone closer to me. Thank you very much.

I bale some and sell it and I burn the rest in the field.

we have round baled soybean stubble when weed feed in the winter we will put out 2 bales of hay and 1 of soybean cows will come running for the beans. Whatever is left they use for bedding.
