Insecticide on Garden

This may be a dumb question, but I"m going to ask it anyway. The next garden season I"m going to go bigger with my garden in with hopes of saleing produce out of it.In the spring I"m going to set up two bee hives to help pollinate the crops. My question is there anything that can spray to kill off the bugs and such, but won"t hurt the bees? Thanks in advance.

Simple answer is NO if you spray to kill one bug you kill them all. Now you can use plants to help you like many herbs and marigolds both of which the bees like but many other bugs do not. I plant basil, sage, rosemary, lemon balm, oregano and marigolds in my garden and it does help keep the bugs you do not want out and the bees coming in

Thanks old thats what I thought, but was hopeing they was.I'll try some that next year and I may plant some sun flowers as well.

I am a former bee keeper so I have studied things in that way and have never found a way to kill one bug with out killing the ones we want around. But I have found from having a garden for 30 plus years herbs and marigolds do work in 2 ways. They help keep out the bugs you do not want but the bees love them. I see bees on my herbs and marigolds all the time

If you plant an onion in each hill or cut up oinions and put some in each hole when you plant potatoes, not supposed to have potato bugs.

I have sold extra produce for over 40 years. This is my last season. You will work your self to death for little money.

How much bigger are you planning on going? What is total size of garden?
2 hives may be too much. One strong hive is by far more productive than two weaker ones. Putting a good hive and adding second brood box at right time will promote more pollinating as they try to fill honey supers, etc.

Be very, VERY careful of seeds used to make sure they are not gmo'd with pre- or post emergent insecticides/herbicides. Research has started to come in with very negative results. Most of the larger commercial beekeepers are taking a stance of staying as far as possible away from those type of crops. Several are plain walking away from business after 40-60 years in business because of the problems. Bees travel up to 3-5 miles for pollen and nectar. If you have under a 3 acre garden, one good strong hive will do wonders.
