Every year I have about one acre of sugar cane that I have been growing to cook cane syrup. I have been spraying with a mixture of Atrazine 4L and Stealth herbicide for the last two years. I always spray with my 100 farmall and have been wondering what personal protective equipment others consider necessary when they spray on a open cab tractor? I always wear safety glasses, long sleeved shirts, long pants and shoes/socks. Just started thinking about trying to be as safe as I can.

Sounds like you have most of the protective gear covered.
With that amount to spray I would use the wind to my advantage.
Always spray into the wind. If you are spraying with the wind, stop and let the drift settle before turning back into it.
I know a guy that custom sprayed 1000's of acres a year with an open station tractor. He ran most days no matter the wind direction and all day long for weeks. He sprayed this way for 15 years. He went to a cab with charcoal filters about 30 years ago.
He is now 70 years old and doing fine.

if you want to be a little safer, pick up a disposable charcoal painters respirator, and a pair of disposable painters coveralls. rubber gloves would be a good idea too. the respirator will help keep the chemicals out of your lungs and the painters coveralls will help prevent any chemical absorption thru the skin. hat would help too.

READ THE LABEL. The label on the herbicide container will tell you what the manufacturer expects you to use.
Could also put air induction tips on your sprayer. These produce very large hollow droplets that fall to the surface fairly quickly and burst on contact to provide the coverage. Little to no drift and the difference is amazing. I had to switch back to flat fans yesterday from those to get my gallonage up to put down fungicide/herbicide at 15 gal/acre above 50 psi, it looked like it was raining out there the drift was so bad. I love my AI tips and use them for all herbicide applications.
