12 Wheel v rake

I am needing to upgrade hay rakes, its just taking to long to rake hay with my 5 bar rake. I have a nice 12 wheel (6 each side) H & S bifold v rake spotted. My question is...is this too big for me? I am cutting with a 9' haybine. I round bale most, but square bale about 1000 bales a year. I'm not real big on putting 3 rows into one, my thinking on that is that the 2 outside rows are moving way too far, loosing leaves along the way and probably not ending green side up. Also does the center row even get turned?? I guess I'm just looking to be more efficient while raking my hay. If you think the 12 wheel may work, I'm gonna go pick it up soon, the price is right. Thanks

you wont want a 12 wheel unless you can take 2 wheels off of each side. I have WR 22 vermeer 10 wheel that will pull 3 windrow together in prairie hay behind my 9ft haybines. I take a wheel off each side in heavy hay to rake 2 windrows, it works fine.

If it is an H&S bi-fold, it can easily be adjusted to take either two or three swaths. There should be two turnbuckles on the rear for windrow width adjustment and a slide mechanism on each arm that will let you determine how wide the rake opens. After using a Sitrex v-rake, than a brand new Vermeer WL-22 v-rake for a week, I bought an H&S bi-fold and it is head and shoulders above the other two rakes. When raking 3 rows the center one does not get turned. To give you an idea on price, I paid $3700 for mine, in very good shape, and have not seen one any cheaper.

I just happened on one for $2450 that looks to be in fair condition. It doesn't appear to have the hydraulic open and close feature, but that may or may not be important to you. If this is not the one you're looking at, and want more information, let me know and I'll tell you how to get more info.

Watch an H&S bi-fold 12 wheel in action at http://www.hsmfgco.com/Movies/Bi-FoldRake/movie.html.

I've owned an H&S Hi-Capacity bi-fold 14 wheel for 10 yrs. It's been a good one. I wouldn't want to go back to the oil heating Vermeer R23. I rake three 9' cuts during the drought years and only two 9' cuts in better years just by moving the hyd remote control lever in the cab(no rake wheel removal required). In '07 on a few fields I could only rake one 9' cut because of the abundance of rain & grass that year. I like the Hi-cap rakes over the plain Bi-fold because the rake wheels(teeth) on the h-cap are closesr to the un-raked hay(no frame in the way to hinder hay flow). Yes when I rake 3 the center windrow is left undisturbed but that doesn't affect grass hay drying(no Alfalfa do here in the near N TX semi-desert). H&S offers a center rake wheels attachment to move middle windrow when raking 3 at a time.
