Weak Buckwheat

wasn't expected much from fields, but hot weather and low rain amounts didn't help. Plants range from 8>14 inches tall. after getting our first real soaker rain week or so ago, it just went into blossoms. Checked it few days before rain there were no signs of blossoms.

Question, once it blossoms will it keep growing, gain height and matter? or will it die off after blossom? Have a person bring up some hives to get what they can from this.

Wilder, I had some buckwheat last year that looked alot worse than that, it would bloom and set seed and then bloom again. I am going to try some more if we get some moisture, at least its keeping the weeds down and its good for your soil.

I found out that the seed will live over the winter and grow the next year in whatever the next crop. That ruined a good rye stand I had. This year I kept it mowed with a riding lawnmower so it wouldn't ruin my timothy. Found out it won't regrow after mowing.

been getting some steady rains, evry 2 > 4 days, .5 inches each. The field is growing thicker, and taller. Bees from hives are working on the flowers pretty good in the AM hours, went to hives, not too much activity there other than workers, and bees coming and going to field. Hope the keeper of hives shows up this weekend, want to see what yeilds are in combs. Never had buckwheat honey, and can't wait to see what it tastes like.
