I would not think a couple is a bad thing, what is the difference of chickens and someone having rabbits for 4H also. I would also say they are laying eggs for food. Maybe a rooster would bring unwanted attention.

Animals are great for teaching children to have responsibilities.

I'm curious,do they not teach students how to use capitalization and punctuation marks in Mn? I know in local schools the teachers don't teach students how to write incursive(spellchecker was no help) only to print.

O can not say for sure about where you are but a lot of cities now days will allow X number of chicken a family can have if in town but they have to be fences etc etc. So you would need to find out if they allow them or not and if yes how many a person can have etc. etc.

I have always struggled with English i just never
really had a teacher to help me with this well the
reason they dint pass the chickens in my town
because they "smell" well dogs smell people smell
what wrong with chickens

well our town council had a meeting and it dint pass
i would like to try to make it so i can have some
chickens and i never have been good at English i go
to alternative school not cause i a bad kid i just
struggle alot in school

There ya go Tex, that'll help the kid a lot. Do they not teach manners in Texas?

You wrote "... the teachers don't teach students how to write incursive(spellchecker was no help)...."

Don't worry, you spelled it right. Now learn what it means

In cur´sive
a. 1. Making an incursion; invasive; aggressive; hostile.

Accept my apology for offending you. Would you please explain just exactly how asking chevyboy149 a question is being RUDE?? I did not BASH him. Putting in the correct punctuation and capitalization makes a paragraph easier to read and understand.

I actually misspelled the word I intended on using. This one of the words Websters Dictionary showed for the word "writing" which was cursive that I intended to use but I left out a space between "in" & "cursive". Excuse my missed "space between the 2 words". BTW I think a lot of our tax $$$$$$$ are going to waste on fancy school facilities and things the school boards waste such as athletics and employee's in the main offices. But I think teachers deserve good pay.

Jim, sorry if I read it wrong, it just looked to me like the kid was getting slapped for his grammar and punctuation. If that's not the case I apologize and will go back to minding my own business like I should have been.

No problem and no apology required. I wasn't intending to step on his toes just thought children went to school to learn such things as grammar but with my Granddaughters not being taught to write(cursive) in local schools I was just asking.

Chevy, I'll be absolutely no help in MN law nor the code from your municipality. What I can do is offer you some insight from our very small borough (think township) in PA.

I'm the zoning and code officer for a borough consisting of less than 400 residents with a village that literally is just an enlarged intersection. No stores or businesses except for a hair dresser.

We do not allow farm animals in the Village Center, neither for profit or hobby and consumption of the eggs. It was included in a ready made zoning package that we bought in 1972 when the state mandated that we have zoning laws in place. It's never been challenged so it's never been changed, but I suspect it would meet a lot of resistance from Borough Council if it were challenged.

Probably the main reason that it might not pass is the fact that chickens are very wasteful birds and leave a lot of feed on the ground. This attracts mice and rats. Mice are a favorite food of snakes, and we have both copperheads and rattle snakes in our area. Chicken manure is a prime breeding ground for flies. While this could be resolved with a good sanitation and manure removal program it's not always practiced. How about your fenced in area? Does your town have any fence laws? I'd almost bet they do, and you might have to be prepared to adjust your chicken area to suit any set back requirements in place.

I'm not telling you it shouldn't be done, I'm just telling you some reasons why it's prohibited here. If you're going to make this as detailed a study as you posted you might want to use some of these arguments and show how you'd overcome them.

Having spent a lot of years managing commercial layer farms we ran into this same kind of argument even in agricultural zones, all over the east coast. We always had our answers prepared as best we could for every probable question or accusation that might come up. Sadly you can't think of them all in advance.

Feel free to let me know if there's anything I can do to help you with your quest.

Ron
