How did that alfalfa turn out? Neighbor had some down the last 3 days saw him raking it about 9:30 this morning, haven't been back by to see if it got dry enough to bale today.

Mine turned out great. Pretty green and 12 to 14 on the moisture. Whats your wheat look like? Mines headed out, I have never seen wheat headed out this early in my life.

Looks good at the moment, headed out nicely. There is a disease going around the neighborhood, not sure of the name but a orange discoloration to tips of the leaves. It started into one of my fields a few days after I had the second application of Quilt (fungicide) put on but appears to have cleared up now. How's it look in your neck of the woods?

I just checked my other two farms tonight and the wheat looks fair, but it sure could stand some rain. Have you been getting these frosts this past week?

Had frost on the cab of the pickup one morning but not on the ground, the wheat has not been hit by frost that I know of. Man at work in Ottawa today that lives somewhere down south of Garnett said a lot of wheat has been mowed and baled down that way, not sure why.

From what I understand, is that their has been so many hay fields turned into row crop that their is a hay shortage scare. That and as early as it is, they can still get it baled up now and still have time for corn or beans. That being said, I have a buddy that runs alot of cattle and he has wheat planted that he was going to bale, but it looks so good he is going to combine it. He thinks that with what wheat is bringing he can buy alot of feed with the money.

I was able to get my alfalfa baled on Wednesday afternoon late. It was extremely heavy first cutting straight alfalfa. Mine didn't dry down as good as yours. My moisture ranged from 18-26 with occasional spikes to 30+. I dumped the preservative to it and it seems to be keeping nicely. I"ve checked it several times in the barn since. It was on the ground for 5 days. I tedded it twice. We had a forecast of 0% chance of rain for five days straight...and naturally on the second day down it rained and was cloudy and overcast with mist all day long. 'One of those deals that really makes you want to brag on the weatherman you know.

I was wondering if you had rain your way. I did not get a drop here, so that made the difference. My alf alfa was heavy also, but grass hay is nothing to brag about. Must be those old long roots going to get moisture that is making this a clover and alf alfa year.
