They reported on our local news tonight that Missouri farmers lost $30 million because of the draught. No one has given any figures as of yet as to what the Missouri farmers lost in floods that were caused by fools.... I assure you that between the two it hurt alot of people in this state.

Yep way to wet in the spring then to dry plus all sorts of other things happening cause lots of problems all over. Been one bad year all the way around and from the looks of things next year may not be much if any better

So whats your point? My schedule ""F"" requires me to declare how much of my investment is at ""risk"", thats what farmers do, take a chance on weather, markets, input prices etc. The government is not going to eliminate the risk for you, you have to mitigate risk with management.

Your still above the ground, planning and looking forward to doing it all again so it could not of been that bad a year.

The standing farm joke around here is

"the only way a farmer can lose money is if his mailbox gets stolen".

150,000 acres were lost in SEMO and another 300,000 acres were lost in NWMO due to flooding..All was prime farm ground so heres another 35-40 million..Some was ruined forever..Add in the Joplin tornado and Missouri took it on the chin..
