Something is attacking my corn. Started on one plant and has moved on to the next. I saw bright green grass hopper on it the other day. What pesticide should I use?

Here is the damage.

Better talk to your Extension Service down there.

Don't know what pest you are dealing with down in Texas.

I'm not sure what to say other than I think Mr. Douglas on Green Acres had the same problem. He called Hank Kimball. I can't remember what the remedy was...I want to say somehow Hank Kimball catch the corn field on fire and smoked the worms out.

Looks like what we call corn bud worm. Dust with Sevin. Look down in top of stalk for worm. They will kill the ear making parts if that is what it is.

i take it that this is sweet corn, but no matrer. i think its waht we call cut worms. sevin will get rid of them. i find the liquid is easier to apply with a apray rig. i have always heard that putting turpentin on your corn seed befroe yu planted them kept the bugs away. i tried it on some late, late corn last year and it really worked for me. i didn't do the test right since i should have planted some with and with out to test it right. if anybody tries this let me know how it comes out for you.

Possibly either Billbug or Cutworms. Regardless, they're long gone now. Those holes were made when those leaves were still rolled up, and close to the ground. Now the plant as pushed those leaves out, and you're seeing the holes. You may have some other bugs out there, but the ones that made those holes are likely gone.

My cousin coats corn with turpentine because the birds don't like the taste of it. He says it makes a big difference.
