Working in the dirt

Some pics of this years attempt to bring an old feedlot into crop production. Sat for 6 years or so with nothing done to it at all. Lots of burdock, creeping Jenny and all sorts of nasty crap.

Had to level out the big humps with a small Cat then chisel plowed and disced. Planted 2 lots (3 acres or so)to oats/alfalfa and 1 lot (2 acres or so)to corn.
Did an acre to oats/alfalfa last year, cut the oats for hay and then did one more cutting to try to keep ahead of the weeds. The wife was thinking it would be nice if I could do this organically......
Plan on running it through a rotation to try to knock the weeds back. Bale up the oats as hay, bale the alfalfa, graze it the 3rd year and plow it back into corn the next. Nothing big for sure but a pleasant way to spend a day or so.

The old stuff still works pretty good.

That's a big tractor for a narrow front end.

Yea, you should be fine without adding any fertilizer for a couple of decades if you have any clay in your soil. It will hold the P & K for a long, long time.

Organic without weed spray - that will be the challenging part. :)

Anyhow, looks nice, nice assortment of tools.
