Fertilizer for oats

Im new to this so I have a few questions. Got my soil test back today. For oats, I need 10lb of N, 30lb of P, and 20lb of K per acre. What would my best bet be for that? Buy it mixed from the fertilizer company? Ideas?

Typically, yes. Several 'common' corn starter granular blends would come close to that.

Do you expect to harvest your oats for grain or hay?

I have been sowing oats for hay for a few years now, and most of the research I found indicated oats are an excellent scavenger crop, and don't show much response to additional fertilizer (in soil with good fertility). Unless you have a way to easily apply fertilizer yourself, I'm not sure the extra yield would justify the application cost. With your relatively low recommendation for N, I'd be tempted to forgo the fertilizer until the next crop. Your oats may yield a little better with the additional fertilizer, but would it pay?

However, if you're harvesting for grain, you may need the extra for a decent test weight.

We always used 12-24-24 because it was the best bang for the buck, depending on your soil of course. We always grew oats for maximum yield to sell for feed grain.
