Corn and rain?

I have a patch of field corn that I would say was a week away from picking, we got about 3 inches of rain this past week and Ill be darned if it isn't turning green again in the stalks, will the ears keep filling or just what is going on here?

Real simple to determine. Shell off a few kernels and gently remove the outside "skin" from the tip. If you then see a brown/black cap called the black layer, the kernel is sealed and all that remains is to dry down. Happens in a short period; ie, you don't have some kernels black layer and smaller ones remain open for future growth.

the best way i've found to see the black layer is split the kernel with a sharp knife and look at its cross section it will look like a black hair or something very close to the bottom. nothing against the other method but i usually peel off the black layer and cant find it
good luck
