Taking up wire

I am planning on taking up a small streach of barb wire fence this weekend, wondering, has anyone ever used old wooden wire spools to wrap wire up on? Want to salvage this wire for a future project, think a spool might work. Has anyone ever took up wire like this? TIA

We always used a PTO driven wire roller. Check them out at a farm supply store.

1, already have a small homeade one that runs off the pto and have no desire to see wire fly, 2, a spool is free, and 3, fairly good stretch of 5 line wire. I'm frugal to a fault.

I never have done it but I lease bulls from a guy and that is how he says he does it.

It would work fine especially if it is a small section.
