Hey guys.
I've got a question about atrazine. I've got 1and a half acres of Reids open
pollinated corn. Its doing quite well. I've got just a little bit of foxtail in it here and there. Probably could spot spray it. Is that stuff controlled now? Can i still buy it . If not what else could i use on this corn?
Thanks

Atrazine is a broadleaf killer it has some limited action on small grasses but not much. If your looking to clean up a field consider Accent, Steadfast, Northstar or any of the other post emergement grass chemicals that are label for field corn you will probably also need some AMS (ammonium sulfate) and crop oil to make the chemicals work as they are designed to. I know in my area Southeast MN the Dept of AG doesn't even want us to use Atrazine any more every year there are more resrtriction on where you can and can't spray it.

Hope this helps

I also forgot Atrazine is a restricted use chemical so unless you have an applicators liecence you aren't going to be able to buy any of it

Not much available which isn't restricted. You can legally get someone with an applicator's license to buy a restricted herbicide and only "oversee/direct" your application. If you go this route there, are many products which will work and I would just ask the person with the applicator's license for his input. Atrazine will kill grass and everything else if you use enough. A short story. Since forever, the family has used salt to kill the grass/weeds in the brick layed sidewalk. Usually had to salt the walk a couple times a year. One day Mom decided that Dad certainly would have something better, so she proceeded to the barn and swiped an open 5 lb sack of atrazine. Best guess is that it contained around 3 lbs. She sprinkled the entire sack on the 4ft wide seventy foot long sidewalk. After it rained, the atrazine killed everything within 10 ft on each side of the walk and nothing grew in this area for the next three years.

You can buy a pretty weak mix of Atrazine... 4% AI by the quart... Local greenhouse / garden store has it on the shelf... It is a product of Hi-Yield.

Hey Rootsy,
Thanks i figured there had to be something out there. I'll see if i can find it.

Thanks to all replys
