Planting Soybeans

I have a corn planter that I am planning on planting soybeanswith a soy plate. It is set up to plant 30" inch rows. How far should the seed spacing be at 30" rows?

Don't have my book in front of me but I think at 150,000 population it is about 8 or 9 per foot.

My memory says 9-12 per foot is 165-170,000. I think we're in the same ballpark. That's what I shot for years ago. Now that's considered excessive. Bushel per acre used to be another standard, but seeds per pound varies a lot now, so I'd rather go by seeds per foot. That's what I liked about the Kinze meters- population was always the same.

Another way to plant beans with a plate planter is to use a medium round CORN plate and set it for population. Normally this plate will drop 2 beans per cell and you can then set it for double the population of what the corn setting would be. I did this years ago when I had a plate planter and it worked well. Did a very nice job singulating the seed. Hope this helps. Mike
