ATV tire pressure??

I know...I should have a manual. But I don't. Aany of you with quads, what psi do you run in the tires??? Mine has been hard to steer when pushing around the barn. A tire looked low today so I checked it and it didn't register the gauge. I put 14 psi in both and it's like having power steering. Just read something about only needing 3 psi. What is right?

Thanks, Dave

I run mine at around 6-8 psi. At 10 psi the tire is domed up to much and wears the center off first. I would run around 6-8 psi.

If it's setting on a hard surface, can you turn the handlebars left and right without being a body builder??????

Thanks.

Rolling or stopped? in 2wd or 4? I run 1-2 psi in my tires but they
are frequently at 0 too. 6 ply 27x12's so you can't tell when they
don't have air. They steer great at 4-5 psi but ride rough. Putting
in 2wd helps. A little sand on the concrete shop floor is like power
steering too.

i put my tires on the rims, put that valve cores in, and that was what was in them. but again mine r 27x12s aswell. my old tires, it depended on what i was doing that day, if i was just playing in the bush or going down the road, id have them about 6-8 psi, but when i was out in the mud, id drop them down to about 2-3psi.

A word of caution probably no one ever considers. Upon arival at a ATV accident a number of years ago the traffic investigater came to the scene of the fatality. His first words were to much air pressure in the tires. We all rolled our eyes, and shook our heads. We had waited a hr for some young jerk (KNOW IT ALL), and that was his assumption?

He could not even see the tires at that distance, and we all thought he was full of crapola. I helped measure the distances of each and ever mark in the soil.

After he explained it, it made perfect sence, it became airborn going over a terrace. (For the record the terrace could be driven over in a mud storm with smooth tires on a 2 wheel drive car) It was less than two foot high, and farmed over.

Once it went airborn, the front tires made contact, and because of the extra air pressure it bounced him backwards on to the rear tires (also to much air). At that point he did cart wheels.

We got a tire guage, and they were over inflated. We all apologised to the TI and we all admitted he was probably right on target with his assumption.

Depends on the tire and application. Anywhere
between 2-10psi depending on the carcass design and
weight carried.
What data is molded into the tire sidewall(s) ?

Wifes Mail getter shows just 2.2 p.s.i. on her tri motor. Be careful. regards LOu.

I have 5 in my arctic Cat 500 Quad. Can't have too hard a tire running around the washes and mountains or desert where we usually ride.Although liscensed for Highways use [You need lights, including stop lite, horn, mirrors and License and Insurance stickers] in addition now we have to buy a $25.00 License for off Highway use.The State[Arizona] brags that now they can put 7 more conservation officers along with the equipment they need ,out to control the "Off Roaders" with funds the new Off Road License generates . Now they are developing a trail system which to me is a joke. The cows and deer already have that taken care of.Soon to go out and ride your machine in enjoyment you will have to participate in a Lottery draw ,sorry not this year Mr. I guess I had better shut up and grin.
