I was wondering how much power a farmall 460 gas has.also whats the biggest plow i could pull.and did they have the same problem with the rear end like the 560's did.Any comments would help. Thanks

3 bottom. But I'm sure you will get replies that their Grandpa oldtimer use to pull 5 bottoms in the heaviest clay third gear torque ahead up hill and not even work up a sweat.

Agree with Mark-MI. 3 bottom 2nd gear high side which is 4+ mph. Not a powerhouse, but a smooth, quick energiser bunny.

I would think it could pull 4-14, but a 3-16 will give you a little "leeway" if you hit a sticky patch. As to the final drive, I am pretty sure that it does have the same one as the 560. Even so, the problem is not as evident on 460s because they have less power.
Have fun with your tractor, SF

Neighbor had one a few years back. He pulled a semi-mount fast-hitch plow that was 4-14" and all it wanted. 3-14" or 3-16" might be a better fit.

The 460 drive train is based on the H and is definetely smaller than a 560 and around here they gave more problems, especially with bull gears and bull pinions wearing out, not to mention the bearings, which weren't too bad after all up dates. Biggest problem was dealers pushed them to replace the M and Supers etc.

And downhill, they shut the engine off and let it coast. Ran so efficiently, they had to drain the tank every few rounds.

If you are looking at buying one run away. Dad had one. I have never saw a bigger gas drinking , gutless, clumbsy, cold blooded dog and I have driven alot of tractors. We had a loader on it and you needed 4 hands to run the throttle, choke, shifter and hydraulics at the same time. I have never hated a tractor more. Suprisingly we had the same engine in a 303 combine and it ran ok.

My old 460 ran like that but it was a diesel. The cup holder came in handy for the ice tea with slice of lemon to sip on. The diesel was so good I could add the disk, spring tooth, and drill on to the back of the plow.

I always recommend AGAINST going for the "biggest plow."

Really, what's the point? Are you in that much of a hurry to get the ground turned over? Maybe you should think about a bigger tractor.

Remember these tractors are old and worn. Just like you, they'll break down if you work them like they're young and fresh.

Brandon, according to the nebraska tractor test#670 it has 46.94 belt and and was rated @35.95 at the drawbar. sounds like a 3-14 plow tractor to me. chuck
