case 580c backhoe injector pump

I'm thinkin' I'll take my chances with a $50 rebuild kit. If it doesn't work out for me then I'll let a shop rebuild it. Prices I'm getting are about $800 +-

are you willing to risk your engine by having a run away? If you have no experience with injector pumps and how they operate hire someone who does.

Is this the standyne/roosa master pump? I have done several with success. look in archives here, info & posts from "j.D." sure helped me. He is boss on these things, but haven't seen him post here in a while--get a special tool to remove cam advance ball stud on bottom of pump- pump shop can order one. I tried to make one, broke the stud-than I had real problems! called a bristol bit I think--available online also. most failures is broken up flex-ring" stopping things up--no rpm-- good luck--paul

Thanks so much Paul. I will look up your referenced info. It is a stanadyne pump, and I'm pretty sure it's the flex ring that's gone bad. Just an additional note in case you do another one-- I spoke to a supplier today who has a seal rebuild kit that has a steel surrounded rubber ring to replace the plastic flexring. The idea being that the steel surround will contain the rubber should it ever go bad. Thanks again, Rick

Hello... I've got a 580C as well...I was running it home last winter and suddenly started to lose power... barely made it back like a lame duck...I checked fuel, new filters, return line clear, etc...I couldn't get it to rev up...just idle...anyways, I ended up removing pump which was a bit_h to get back stud nut off... I went to pour fuel out from inside pump shaft and a bunch of small black pieces of hard plastic came out... you mention "flex-ring" and I am thinking that is my problem...plugging up fuel passages...what do u think?...big job to replace? and recommendations?... ie rebuild kit?... thanks for feedback

Jerry, Sounds like your problem is the same as mine. I haven't tore down my pump yet. But I did buy the seal kit on ebay for $29 + shipping. Lots of orings and gaskets in the kit. Plus, I bought the piece which is supposed to replace the original plastic flex ring ($60). Let's stay in touch. Maybe we can help each other through this project. Thanks, Rick

I been looking all over the internet and my Case 580C is doing the same this. Where do you find the steel flex ring? Also I can't seem to find any info on rebuilding the pump. I found the rebuilding kit on ebay but it has the plastic flex ring. What is the flex ring for???
Just don't want to spend the $700 + for a rebuilt one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
