Napa Filters$$$$

Funny...local Napa filters(oil, air, and hydraulic) cost more than New Holland filters shipped to me from a dealer 2 hours away. I like Napa, pretty much the only parts store I use, especially considering my other options are Advance Auto Parts and AutoZone, but at he rate they're going, I'll be doing most of my business online.

It seems the local stores have quite a wide levity in pricing filters and it all depends upon what discount category they decide to sell to you at.

If you are a shop, a fleet user, or large farmer you will likely get the best price.

Bought a distributor cap for a 140 IH a few years ago ,along with a handfull of other parts from the local Napa store. Never looked at the invoice until I got home but haven't been there since. They had charged me 18 dollars for the cap. Joe

at work i have to find parts . some times with the same part from diffrent places the price can have a lot of price diffrents . got to call and check prices .

Napa here is the same way and there answer to everything is that must be a dealer only part . I don"t even go in there anymore. There worthless

Just be glad you have a NAPA all we have is OReily's and Auto Zone and both are filled with pure junk IMO. When I was in Ohio I also dealt with Car quest and liked them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. "Just because your NAPA isn't worth a crap don't mean the same for all NAPA stores"

I get very well cared for at our local NAPA. Not as cheap as the "big box" auto stores, but I have much better luck with reman alternators, starters, and seems like anything electrical at NAPA.

As for filters, 2 times a year they have "filter sale".. and as an example, the air filter lists $66 for my pickup.. Filter sale it costs about $15.00.. Usually costs me much less than list, but it's about half price of what I'd pay everyday during the sale.

Again, I'm really happy with the service I get.. And they're pretty good with ag applications too.

Napa like alot of others... Ya need to get to know the Counter Guy, I can Buy parts dirt cheap at My store close by, they have about three different Prices i always get the lowest LOL! You got to know someone there. Larry KF4LKU

I usually call around for parts, and Napa seems to cost the most. There are two local Car Quests here, one is as much as Napa, and the other si nearly always the cheapest around.

Napa on average has pretty good parts. Followed by Car Quest. Auto Zone and Advanced auto handle pure junk. I stopped and got a thermostat for my wife"s car at Advanced Auto. Her doctor is in the same parking lot. The old one stuck. It is in a real PIA place to change. It was a Stant part. It was bad out of the box. I wasted half a day changing it again with one from Napa. It works just fine. Only cost three dollars more.

several things here to consider, first with filters you get what you pay for, napa's as well as carquest are made for them by wix, there is no better filter than that, you can buy filters from brand x online for as little as 3 or 4 bucks, but do you really want a 3 dollar filter protecting your many thousand dollar engine? second the people behind the counter will make or break a parts store, put kids with no mechanical experience behind the counter and the place is worthless, unless you need to stick a semi truck exhaust pipe under a honda, experienced counter people will make the store the go to place in town, also there is a vast difference in pricing , if you know the guys, and shop in there often and are friendly, you end up paying the same price for parts that a auto shop pays for them, if your in there once a year, have thrown a fit in there, talked bad to the help, even if they dont know what there doing, your paying full retail price period, about twice or more what a shop pays, your call, but if your paticular store isnt any good or you cant get pricing where it needs to be might as well shop elsewhere

Yep, there;s lke jobber, jobber + 10, dealer, stocking dealer, wholesale, distributor, and retail., etc. Differnent price rates, dependin on who ya are. Sucks major b*tt, but that's the way the game is played. ;

I always figured if they gave the walk-in customer price that knows what he wants, versus the walk-in customer thats gonna eat up a bunch of their time, they ought to give the guy a break, like at dealer, or maybe even jobber +10. Stilll makin money. Be a repeat customer and make money every time, plus word of mouth would get out.

I've walked in, here's the part number, got the part, and walked out with my b*tt sore. They're makin money, if they cut repeat customers (retail) that know what they're doin a break, they'd make a WHOLE lot more money. And get the best kind of advetisement--word of mouth.

Ya can't believe the markup in auto parts, don't ask me how I know

I use my NAPA store a lot, because of the manager, and 3 of the 5 counter people. I agree wholeheartedly with Brad's response, and Bob. It's who you know, how you treat them, and how much you use them!

When I go to NAPA, I expect QUALITY, and I get
IT!
For many years I taught night school, for
Hydraulis, at a Technical college. We cut open
filter as part of the course on filtration.
I can tell you some horrer stories about
different brands of filters, once you've seen
them cut open. Baldwin and NAPA/WIX were the
best.
