Used oil as fuel

Is anybody using used oil in there older diesel vehicles In farm show I have read several articles about people doin it
Thanks Shaun

For the last few years I have run every drop of used hydraulic oil from tractor and other machine changes as fuel on my trackhoe with no ill effects or variation in power. Strain it twice and use 10 gallons in a 60 gallon tank, course I never let the tank get less than half empty so the oil is continuously being diluted. Now that you mention it I think I will rig up a filter for used motor oil.

I have a good friend who used old filtered engine oil in a Cummins diesel powered pickup, fine till the injection pump failed causeing a need for a total rebuild. Just one man's perspective but I'm bettin clean fuel would have been cheaper for him in the long run knowing how diesel shops charge for their work. mEl

My thoughts, EXACTLY!

If the oil is too dirty to be run through engine bearings with 1 to 3 thousandths of clearance HOW is it smart to run it through an injection pump which has operating clearances a FRACTION of that?

HOW many gallons of oil would have to be burned to make a premature $1500 pump overhaul worth it?

What's the infatuation with running used motor oils and hydraulic oils in an injection system?? Used motor oil is full of black soot, hydraulic oil has minute metallic particles in it ....Are you really saving anything by using this ??I use CLEAN fuel and NEW 2 cycle oil in my old diesel..You couldn't possibly filter enough of the particulates to make this pump/injector friendly...Not even through momma's goochies..

Friends and I fed our Model a Ford used motor oil.About a quart per 5 gallons of gas.Got it free from a gas station.People do the same thing with hi price mystrey oil.

The manufacturer sizes the fuel filter microns to the injection system, many diesel fuel filters go down to one micron, by comparison, the average size of a human hair is 60 microns. Think how much trash is in your fuel if you haul it in cans, drums or even a good tank with a pump and nozzle, that nozzle gets trash inside of it from the atmosphere, your fuel tank is constantly flaking particles, the bulk plant hauls it in and contaminates are everywhere. Thats what fuel filters are for.

friend dumps ALL his used oil in his (10,000 gal)diesel tank.done it for many years-no problems that i'm aware of.But its filtered 4 times be fore it gets to the injection pump

My son has run hydraulic oil through his Dodge Cummins with no problems except for when he gets it a little to thick and then it starts hard. It has over 400,000 miles on it and still running.

A truck driver that I knew that drove for Roadway told me Roadway did not change oil. Roadway had an injection system that injected a gallon of motor oil in with the fuel in so many miles, then the maintenance shop replaced it.
Constant turn over of fresh oil with out the cost and hassle of oil changes and used oil.

I was thinking of a quad filter setup with magnets to help ketch steel particles and a big tank to settle the water out .
