Ford 6000 SOS transmission trouble

I am having a problem with my 6000 trani. I lost all forward gears. I still have the 2 reverse gears. According to the I&T manual and what I have found online, it sounds like the mainshaft broke or an issue with the "B" carrier. I guess I am looking for some help here. Any ideas/suggestions. Are parts still available? If so where? I am not having much luck finding them. Any help would be great. Until this happened this has been a great tractor for me. Most of the local Ford mechanics that new the 6000 have either died or are not in good enough health to help me. Thanks for your time.

Try Alexander's tractor in TX.They speacialize in (exclucive)Ford tractors.Good luck search/repair.Hope you can get it back in the field soon!

I looked at a private sale 6000SOS recently and was told by an old ford dealer to run the other way. They were supposedly made one or two years only, had problems, and parts are not available anymore. Just passing on what i was told from a local dealer in MA (Klem's).

We have a couple of them 6000, would be intrested in selling for parts. Where are you located let me know. Tranny in ours are all okay that I know of.

I have a 6000, and would be interested in a parts tractor, depending on price, OR I might consider selling mine as a parts tractor. Mine was running last summer, although I only drove it about a quarter mile because the power steering pump had a leak and I didn't want to run the hyd reservior dry. As for the tranny, I did use both reverse gears, and 1 thru 5 forward gears. Didn't try the 5 thru 10. The tractor sat about 4 years before I drove it last summer, but I did operate the tractor the year before it was parked and don't recall any tranny problems (I was using it to pull a 3 point, 8' tandem disc, and it operated fine). Diesil engine runs great, but it needs a power steering pump, and probably hydraulic system drained/flushed. It also needs a cowling, unless I can find it on my grandads place somewhere. He and my dad had removed it, working on something, can't remember what. They both passed on last year. Dad was a diesil/heavy equipment mechanic, and the only one around here that could/would work on that tractor.
Let me know; if you have a parts tractor, what do you want for it? If your interested in my tractor, let me know what additional info you want. I've been getting a bit discouraged with the project. A parts tractor might get me back on track.

Right now I want to research fixing my tractor. It runs great.Starts at 20 below. Great on fuel. I do all my square baling with it and manure spreading. I put injectors in it and a new garret turbo on it couple of years ago. I remachined the injector drive coupling (timing was way off). I would like to restore it, so I might be interested in buying a parts tractor. I know they aren't the most popular tractor but this old girl has done alright by me. What would you be asking for your tractor?

Just so it is not overlooked, you did try Larry Romance over at Arcade? I only mention this as I have seen people not aware of something even if it is only 15 to 20 minutes away.
The problem is also that a lot of the old (Ford and otherwise) dealers folded and the personnel went on to other careers years ago. There is probably somebody out there that may know but how to find him. I'll ask a couple guys I know that work on older Fords and post back if it is possible they know SOS.

Parts are not readily available at Larry Romances. They would have to do a search. I got the impression that they really do not want to discuss the 6000 there. I understand Bob Quackenbush (used to work for Romances)was the man to talk to. I was told he has alzhiemers real bad.

The 6000 was introduced in 1961 and built through 1967. The 1965 - 1967 models were called the Commander 6000. They ALL had the SOS tranny.

sounds like you guys are in my neck of the woods,Larry Romance is about 15 miles from my house in south wales. Bill Mart.

I'm in the Western Finger Lakes (barely) but have a fair amount of family and friends stringing from east of Rochester over to Buffalo so it is not unusual to catch me in the western part of the state from time to time.
Romance is one of the last old time Ford dealers to survive the mergers and have people that really know the older stuff. There was a dealer in Lockport but I don't really know whether they are there now and what the talents of the mechanics are. As stated before a lot of the old time Ford dealers did not make it past the 1990's (if that far) and I have no clue to where all those people and their expertise are now. The New Holland dealers around here are converted from another make(s) after the mergers of the 1980's but I would imagine they would know the more common Ford products.

Good to know. Where is a good place to find instructions on changing the b carrier. The i&t manual is very vage. How about a place to find parts? Thanks for your help.

Most people suggest ditching the 6000. Maybe it is the best option. But before doing that I want to expend all other options. There is still alot of talent at Romances. For some reason they shy away from the 6000.
