I just had a guy call and wanted me to haul some cattle to the slaughter house tomorrow and he wanted to know what to charge for the ones he had sold. He wants hanging weight value for halves for hereford steers.
I don't know what to tell him. I only sell live weight.
Thanks

220% of quoted live weight (from OKC West) is what I get for cull cows, hot carcass weight, discounted for blemishes etc. .

I always thought hangin' weight was about 1/2 of on the hoof weight and cut and wrapped was about 1/3 of on the hoof.
Could be wrong.

I was up to $2.25 hanging wieght . Sold my last ones last spring . If I do it again I will raise the price , unless the feed price drops some I will have feeders for sale .

I charge $2.00 per pound hanging weight for my beef. The butcher charges $.65 to kill, cut and wrap. Of the total of $2.65 per pound hanging weight the butcher gets 24.5%. He has no risk???? Bud

Chicago was in the high $1.50s' today for hot on the rail and on my side of the state I get the Ontario report and they were up to $1.70. So sounds like if ya gettin's what everyone else is posting then you are doing better then commodity market. I only sell by the packaged weight so I can't give ya a price what I am at.

I just sold some corn fed holstein steers at 2.00 per # hang wt. I use to charge 1.75. They pay all processing charges. I deliver them to the slaughter house and they pick them up cut and wrapped.

We are charging $1.85 hanging weight....

Hanging weight is 60% (roughly) of hoof weight so using a multiplier of 1.666 hanging weight X 1.6666 = Hoof weight

1000 pound hoof weight
60% = 600 pound hanging weight

600 X 1.666 = 999.6 lbs.

For us, this equals about $1.11 per pound hoof weight (roughly)

If you figure hang'n weight is about 60% of live weight then the $2 every one else is say'n would be about right. I have three fed steers going to town in about 2 weeks, all have been spoken for by the half for $1.20 live weight. And most have had a $100/half deposit on them for two months to hold them.

(In other words looks like I need to raise my price a little and try to market, not just word of mouth)
