Seeking a good tractor story with photo

Hi, I am working on my masters in painting and am going to be painting a series of older tractors for my final project. I fell in love with painting old Farmalls, Olivers and John Deers about six years ago. I am looking to expand my material and am hoping there might be some tractor enthusiasts willing to tell me a great tractor story and send a picture of their tractor. Over the next year I will select and paint several along with our local ones. Those selected will be sent a free print of their tractor for their contribution. I am open to other models but am particularly fond of older tractors with lots of personality. Thank you.

Hi Wendy,I got one for you:a "modifyed'1937 Farmall F-12.Was purchaced new by my Fil in gunnison,Co.the engine was destroyed in '48 with linseed oil and repowered with a Jeep engine. It was finally 'retired in about 1980.In '87 my wife and I retrieved it (hauled it across the continental divide--that is another story)and used it a little bit.It developed a problem and was abandoned behind our barn for about 10 years. We decided to fix it or junck it--we fixed it and added a small loader.after afew years we reversed it(5 years ago) and added the hilift loader.we still use the thing(almost daily)

this last summer i bought a tractor at the age of 17 with my own
money. its an oliver 1655 and i have since also had a senior picture
with the tractor.

Do you have any documentation/pictures of the process of reversing it?

Interesting idea, but I bet it was a PITA to do. I'm assuming you reversed the transmission as well so you have 3 speeds in the new "forward" direction?

You don't have to reverse the tranny. The rear end housing on Farmalls and many others has enough room so that the ring and pinion gear can be reassembled so that the ring gear is on the opposite side. As I recall, the ring gear is on the right side of the pinion, and can be switched to the left side for reverse operation which will give all former forward gears a backwards direction to the big drive wheels of the tractor. I know this was frequently done on Farmalls, Molines, and Allis's, maybe others as well.

That's what I meant by "reversing the trans". I was pretty sure it could be done on the F series as well.

Clutch and brake linkage would be fairly straight forward, but I wonder about the steering. I expect shifting for loader work is a PITA too.

A ligitimate poster who isn't affraid to prove it. Welcome aboard and nice paintings. Pardon the initial stand-off-ishness , but I'm sure you understand.
