If someone asks a question like the torque on a head bolt and a person replies with the correct answers why do 8 other people reply with the same answer?????????

Maybe it's just me.

At time the answers all come in very close to the same time so it can be where 2 or 3 people are typing and they just line up that way. Other times it is to conform what some one else said. And then some times there happens to be an old spec and a new spec that some do not know about

Jim, most of the time it is because the original poster who asks the question does not give enough info for people to clearly and concisely respond. For instance, a poster will ask something like "How do I stop a leak from my injector pump?" Leaving out brand of tractor, model of tractor, year of tractor, brand of injection pump, where the leak is ocurring, whether it leaks just enough to get wet or runs a visual stream, etc. So, folks will start trying to imagine what the leak might be and try to cover all kinds of things in their answer. Some just say "my tractor wont start" ; now try answering that one!!

I like to get 3 or 4 of the same answer. If the first guy is wrong, it's nice to know before you are lead down the wrong path..... maybe that's just me.

As mentioned, sometimes 2 or 3 people are replying @ the same time.

Also, some people don't read the entire thread, just the original post, then they reply.

And...Some people think their opinion is so danged important, until they give their opinion, none of the others matter.

As mentioned, it's good to get a consensus of opinion....ie, multiple "same answers".

My question is why someone will post a question and when others would like it clarified the originator never responds. The original never bothers to respond to thank the people who help them. There are some here I don't bother to respond to as they have not enough appreciation to let others know what or who has helped them.

Gene

That is true. Some people have the time to write a book to explain a problem and then can't even find the time to reply with a simple thank you.

much rather have multiple answers than the post being hijacked and spun off in a different direction.

If I ask a question and only one answers, I wonder if I ask a stupied question. Their are lots of folks on here that are knowledgeable on differents subjects and look at things at differents angles. This board gives me the information that I can not ask from my dad or grandpa anymore and I hope I can pass what I know onto the younger generation. When you get two anwser on the same question, that don't mean they both can't be right.

Sometimes a different direction is fun.
See I just sent this post down a different road but atleast it was mine to start with.

If 10 people answer, two may be completely wrong, 7 with varying degrees of right answers. Then the one person comes along with a really unique idea, that no one else thought of before and everyone is asking "why didn't I think of that"?

Gene

Right, but when you get 7 or 8 that are all the same that is a little strange.

It's like asking did Allis Chalmers make a CA model tractor and the replies are :
Yes
Yes they did
They sure did
Yes
Yes along with many other models
Yes they did, I have one
Yes, here is a picture
Yes, they were a nice tractor

If I saw the first reply saying yes I would move on to the next post since Yes says it all.

A lot of us will read the question and immediately answer it without reading all of the previous posts.

well there you go,18 answers to your question.
Are yo Happy now.

I rather have 20 reply's than none, shows people are interested and/or knowledgable and want to help best they can.
Now what's wrong with that?

Your lucky if you get all right answers, most of the time you get everybody talking about everything but the answer.

I have answered questions that had no reply and after I post two people have beat me. If I have a question the more answers the better some times there is more then one way to do things.

Jim, I find that when more then one person responds to a specific problem(Note I said (specific)there seems to be SOME who can't wait to become self serving and argumentative to chime in with their words of insults. I guess it's the nature of the beast, but IMHO I can do well with out that type of answer. Most problems I've encountered with different items I own,has been well received and well answered with SEVERAL responders who by the way are polite and knowledgeable. What one responder didn't think of as a solution, another thought of a different approach to solving the problem. Now to me that makes for GREAT problem solving. Some responses are quite HUMOROUS and relives the tension the problem created. (Humor in adversity)
Hope this helps in giving you one more reason why I think multiple responses work for me.
Regards, LOU.

Some posts have delay in showing up, and a
better chance at getting a right answer or at least a consensous. Paul

Thurlow Are you sure you need to know the answer to your question?? Are you sure 138 ft lbs is correct? I have it on authority the true torque is EXACTLY AND I MEAN EXACTLY 138.999 ftlbs, give or take a ftlbs. lol.
LOU.

During the day I plop down in front of the computer to browse through YT real quick and I don't read all of the posts before I make mine. Jim

You ask why, cause that's the only friend they have, YT gives them a friend and Dear Abby takes to long, that's why

Since you asked. Alot of times I read only the orginal posts and skip through the answers maybe reading the ones I agree with. I also sometimes refrain from answering a question I'm sure I have the answer to because twenty other folks will beat it to death. But all in all I enjoy the forum or I wouldnt be here. Sometimes the debate gets a little more spirited than I think is merited for the trivial problems that the post started with but then again I'm always right so its easy to decide who's side to take. O and thanks for starting this post.

to make it simple...
How do you know the first yes is correct ?-- unless others agree ? could send ya on a wild goose chase .

Sometimes there's more than one correct answer or more information to go with the answer. Some people will explain the answer better too. More answers the same tend to give credibility to the first answer. I have seen some rare times where a bunch of people have posted the same wrong answer till someone came along and corrected it. Dave

I am sure they are all well meaning, and took the time to reply. You have to appreciate that, surely.
Showcrop has given the correct answer.
