Paul Harvey News Comment

I afraid he has left us and moved on to greener pastures..............

Paul Harvey Aurandt (September 4, 1918 – February 28, 2009),[1] better known as Paul Harvey, was an American radio broadcaster for the ABC Radio Networks. He broadcast News and Comment on weekday mornings and mid-days, and at noon on Saturdays, as well as his famous The Rest of the Story segments. His listening audience was estimated, at its peak, at 24 million people a week.[2] Paul Harvey News was carried on 1,200 radio stations, 400 Armed Forces Network stations and 300 newspapers. His broadcasts and newspaper columns have been reprinted in the Congressional Record more than those of any other commentator.[3]

The most noticeable features of Harvey's folksy delivery were his dramatic pauses and quirky intonations.

In later years, he added so much advertising to his show it was unreal. And he sold some real crappy things - like eden pure heaters.

I'm not sure if he officially took over the Paul Harvey spot, but our station now plays the Mike Huckabee Report where Paul Harvey News and Comment was played before his death.

His ads were so phony it was really pathetic.

Like a 1934 Chevy truck climbing Pike's Peak with a 3,800 pound load as a side trip while going across country.

His ad said "Theralgesic" ointment was completely odorless. I tried some and it stunk to high heavan.

And the list went on.

I did enjoy his "Rest of the Story" bits.

The PH News and Commentary lasted for about three weeks after his geath, mostly being hosted by Paul Jr and Gil Gross but ratings were down and ABC pulled the plug early, even tho PH News was still under a 10 year contract.

You must not get out much. Paul Harvey's death was announced on every television and radio news program, from local to national. Even Rush mentioned it IIRC.

Almost two years now... My how time flies.

Yep, he was neat, but passed on to that big broadcast booth in the sky. I miss his BOSE speaked ads, LOL Good day!

I liked the one about him not having anything against importing Japenese cars, but he would have insisted on them taking back one American lawyer for each car they shipped over here.

You may wonder why people buy cars from eBay. The answer is quite simple. There are a lot of old cars or exotic ones, which are not produced any more and can be found only on eBay. Moreover, the price of such a car is significantly lower on eBay than at the car dealers.
