Anti-Cavitation additive

I know that there is special anti-freeze for diesel engines to prevent cavitation, but is there an additive to add to Diesel tractor radiators to guard against cavitation?

It's the same stuff- SCA (Supplemental Coolant Additive). You can buy it at NH, NAPA or you can buy anti-freeze that already has it mixed in. NAPA sells some test strips to check for the proper amount of SCA in the coolant.

yes, you can mount a spin on filter adapter and then buy the filters for this and change them as required.

Many coolant treatments help prevent radiator corrosion AND cylnder-wall caviation. But how in the heck can a radiator suffer from cavitation? It is a process of harmonics from pistons firing, knocking corrosion off a cylinder walls, over and over, until pin-holes develop. Kind of like pikcing a scab and never letting the wound heal. That's a simplistic def, but close enough. It is why higher horsepower engines, and also engines with thinner cylinderwalls get it worse then with low power and thick walls.

he's not asking about radiator cavitation. he's asking if you can add an additive to the radiator to prevent cavitation.

JD or any machine dealer will have the coolant concentrate additive and the test strips to get the right concentration.

It's Mac's 13 I get it from my Valvoline Marathon Jobber,(my gas man) put a bottle in everything, once a year.

John Deere makes a product. Most IHs and CIHs have a water filter that has the chemical in the filter.

ask your friendly local dealer they should know. best protection against cavitation is to buy diesel anti-freeze and if its not pre-mixed mix with distilled water only. they minerals and such in tap water is partly the culprit but now days most coolant filters have an additive in them to prevent cavitation and treat your coolant

If you cannot find exactly what you want locally, buy it from a Ford car/truck dealer. Ford had problems when they bored out the 6.9 diesel to a 7.3 - with cavitation. So, since then, they sell the stuff in a Motorcraft bottle. At least I know their stuff works.

It's not just diesels. I just overhauled a Deere 1020 gas that was getting coolant in the oil. Had a sleeve that was pitted so bad,it cracked right through.

IH dealer has it. NH dealer has it. MF dealer has it. They probably all do. Just ask for their anti-cavitation additive. I use the additive and 50/50 Prestone/distilled water. Tom
