Does anyone know anything about New Idea Co. Are they still in business? Are there any dealers around anywhere? They were very popular at one time and I was just curious, thanks in advance.

Don't know all the details, but they were absorbed by AGCO a while back. I'm pretty sure there are no new things made with the New Idea name, but AGCO is pretty good about parts support.

Aaron is right, they are owned by Agco now, the are or were still badging some disc mowers New Idea, the 5409 was a 9 ft model in production last I knew.

New Idea was bought out by Agco. Agco was bought out by Massey Fergusion. Now new New Idea equipment says Massey Fergusion.

You've got that backward. According to the AGCO web site, they purchased New Idea in 93 and Massey in 94. They bought Hesston in 91 and have decided in the last year or so to use the Massey name on all the equipment other than the Gleaner combines and I believe the White planters.

I believe the last facility Agco had at the NI works in Coldwater, Ohio was a parts depot and I'm pretty certain that is also gone. Believe White maintained an office facility but had moved all manufacturing before it became Agco. Agco soon moved the office operation. Briefly considered going to NI after school, but before graduating we took a tour and I became convinced NI would struggle compared to it's larger competitors that I was considering and had previously seen. One classmate did become an employee and designed an improved floating cutterbar grain head. He might have been joking, but said they basically purchased the current production JD head and copied it. He only stayed a few years. Don't believe they ever gave him a salary increase and this was during the mid-late seventies when salaries were rapidly increasing due to inflation. Considered NI because the family used and I also liked the product. Furthermore it was within a 100 miles or so of the home farm, which would allow the desired weekend forays.

The only things left in Coldwater of New Idea are owned by the historical sociaty and they can get you copies of about all manuals on any New Idea equipment. They are having trouble with the epa in trying to get permission to use what is left of the old New Idea building for a musium as the epa says it is too contaminated.

The first sale for New Idea was to the Avco Cororation This was in the late fifties This added the availability of money. They added nuch new equipment The new five bar hay rake. the great Flail Manure spreader.504 Loader. 600 forage box The Uni Line It had great dealer loyalty I worked for seven years and they were great. Then they became a pawn for big business management All we need to do is look at Agco and what it has done to so many lines of farm equipment.
