CAV pump on a BD154 I.H.C

One of the studs that hold the top cover on the pump is stripped in the main body. Are these pumps complicated or can I dismantle it and possibly helicoil the housing myself? I am a mechanic but have always ordered exchange pumps. Any advise would be appreciated.

IH has complete manuals for that pump - in the Blue Ribbon manuals. There is also a complete manual online in a PDF file for a CAV DPA pump in a British Taxi cab (same as your's). Search for "CAV DPA taxi" and you'll find it. It's online at several auto-diesel, tractor, and marine Websites.

Just did one of these on a Massey 65 after a few words of encouragement from a couple guys here. Not to bad at all. Got a seal and gasket kit for around $30 off ebay.

Be very careful to note how how the governer spring is hooked up under the top cover. I guess if you don't get it back in the right adj holes you'll never get it to run right. Other than that, it was pretty straightforward.

Don, whatever you do, lift the top cover just a little and look under and WRITE down which hole of the "tombstone" the spring is hooked in. Also WRITE down which hole the other spring is hooked into. This is essential during re-assembly and will not be covered in the pump repair instructions, because the exact hole used are for your particular engine as determined by the tractor's OEM engineer - not CAV specs.
