My 1939 A does not have a right angle PTO on it. Can a belly mower be ran off of the straight pto shaft or must you have the right angle PTO? Can I even add one to my tractor?

Many belly mowers use a belt pulley that fits the PTO shaft then has an arrangement of other pulleys to change the direction of the belt to be able to power a belly mower

It's been several years ago, but seems like a Cub I had with a belly mower used a pulley on the PTO and a pair of pulleys lower down to run the mower.
The pulleys bolted under the rear axle, and it used one long belt that ran around all four pulleys. One pulley on the PTO, two pulleys at the back, and one pulley on the center mower spindle.
If you could find some pictures, maybe you can see what I'm trying to describe.

Hey KD I have one of the pto's you need. I have to go hunting in the shed. It has a double v belt pully on it too. If your intrested e mail me. TRUCKER

Our C has the V-belt sheave on the belt pulley shaft, at a right angle to your PTO. The advantage of using the belt pulley shaft is that it turns much faster and you don't need such a large sheave. When they put the sheave on the PTO I believe it has to be about 18" diameter to achieve the proper blade speed. Woods has an excellent website where you can probably look at a detailed drawing of a mower on an A.

I'm on the search for parts, got to be careful though to get something that will work with what I got. No sense in buying a part or mower if I can't run it.

Thank you all very much,
Cannon

Woods made a belly finish type mower that would fit right on your tractor and there are probably others that made them. I have taken mowers that where not made for what I have fit what I have

The dia of the pulley used to drive the belley mower is too large to put on the pto and run the belt to the spindles. You need to add the belt pulley drive to your pto assy. Other tractors like the B and C,SC have clearence for the huge pulley to run belley mowers. so the answer is no. If freight isnt too bad i can ship you one send e-mail. I have the pulley to run the mower also.

better talk to gene and trucker in looking at the back of your A, and the back of my cub which has a belly mower on it the 2 pto systems are completly different, the cub's pto with the belt pully is much higher up on the back of the tractor , then the belt goes down thru the mule drive which is a set of pulleys running at angels before it takes off for the drive pully on the mower so the A has to have a completly different set up

Have a number for you off of my PTO. It is
9092-D. Here are a few pictures, sure is confusing
but allot of help here if I can provide the right
information so you all can answer.
Thank you
