F250 Heater Core

I've got a 2000 F-250 and think I sprang a leak in the heater core last night.

I've read internet stories that said a person has to take the entire dash out and others laughing about that saying it isn't nearly that bad. From what I can see so far, it does look fairly tough...

Does anyone have any comments about replacing a leaky heater core??

I've done it in other vehicles, but not this one... I hope to tackle it tomorrow evening...

Thanks for any advice,
Howard

You need to remove the dash on my old 1981 Mercury Cougar to replace the heater core. I change the antifreeze every 3 years since it will lose the rust inhibitor over time. There's not too many garages around to do that core removal and its not cheap. They should've nutted the engineer that designed that setup. The easiest core removal I ever had was on a 1959 Rambler station wagon. It was located on the firewall and could be replaced in a few minutes. I bought a used core from a later model Rambler and never had any more core problems. Hal

+1, I've had to do several in my '86, and one in an '89. Access thru glove box and it's not that bad.

Dash work all depends on how you look at it,,, sit down work is hard to beat,,, its when you have to stand on your head that gets me... Had to replace the core on my 77 F350,,, the condensation had rusted all the screws in the bottom of the case,,, once I got the dremell tool out it was not to bad...

As normal I made more work out it than I should have :( . I knew the evaporator case would not come out from under the hood with out some engine disassemble but gave it a shot anyways... Bad move on my part, it did make for a good fight tho...
